The incredibly historical Kuttippuram Kalari is situated in Kuttipuram, nearer to the Bharathapuzha and Railway line of Kuttipuram in the Malappuram district of Middle Kerala. The oldness of the Kalari is still unknown even to the existing elder generation. The elder people in the age group '80s of today's generation reminisce about their ancestors like the late Sarvasri Karunakara Panicker who was known as Kutti Panicker & Kunjunni Panicker, Velayudha Panicker, Manukuttan Panicker etc were renowned astrologers. The next generation coming after it includes Raghava Panicker, Narayana Panicker, Kutty Krishna Panicker, Gopala Panicker, Chandrasekhara Panicker, and Bhaskara Panicker. During those days, the Kalari itself was an auspicious place for the conduction of Vidyarambha rituals of the children. At that time it was told by thepeople that the Kalari had a roof, which was lost during a heavy hurricane.
In the auspicious festival times of Sree Nottanalakkal Bhagavathy Temple which is a part of Kuttippuram Desam, it was being said by all that, during the Bhagawathy's Ezhunellippu (Auspicious visiting out of Goddess to see her devotees) after going through strict purity- sanity rituals in a special dress the elder people accompanies along with it by taking Sword,Paricha from the Kalari.Today all these customs vanished. During AD 1861 in Kerala when the Railway was coming, today's Malappuram and kuttipuram was a part of the Malabar district under British governance. Once when the survey was starting for the railway line in kuttipuram, the railway officials decided to take a survey over the Kalari, and its nearby sacred grove and graveyard to avoid the curve in the line. When the elder people of the Tharavadu came to know about this move, all of them together were assigned to meet directly the British Malabar collector and they explained their concerns in front of him. They have pleaded for protecting the Kalari and graveyard from the survey. Considering the concern and polite request of the elders, they have avoided it from the survey. That's why a very long curve occurred to the railway line till today's kuttipuram railway station. It was the only railway platform in Kerala that had this long curve. The entire survey troops came nearer to the Kalari, an illusioned man with sky peaking height wearing a white dress, along with having sacred ash powder - Bhasma in all the body appeared in front of them, and peacefully saying No with the right hands. The surway team fear and endeavor Legend also has it that the immediate resignation was withdrawn. That's it Even today, Kalari deities are worshiped by powerful deva spirits It is seen as a blessing to the family and the surrounded village.
